The main road to and from Ventnor Esplanade on the Isle of Wight has been shut, leading to concerns for seafront businesses.
Shore Hill, or The Cascades as it is more commonly known, is expected to be closed for around two weeks.
The Esplanade, and its shops and restaurants, can still be accessed at the other end of the road, near the Spyglass Inn and the La Falaise car park.
Temporary fencing has been erected halfway down Shore Hill.
There are fears the closure could affect footfall to businesses, due to it being the main route to the seafront.
The closure is necessary to allow for Southern Water works to take place.
One-way restrictions are in place on Esplanade Road, in a northbound direction, and Bath Road, in a southbound direction.
A closure notice says the road could be closed up until May 26.
A diversion is in place and is signposted.
