A FORMER Cowes man accused of punching a man unconscious during what was alleged to have been "a long, persistent assault", elected to stand trial before a jury.
Jonathon Mark Anthony Gayle, of no fixed address, denied inflicting grievous bodily harm against Adam Johnson on March 27 last year, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.
He elected to have his trial at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
The 36-year-old was bailed to reappear for a plea and trial preparation hearing, at the higher court, on June 19.
