Would you like to create a piece of public art, write a column for the County Press, go to the theatre in Brighton or work on a huge event?

If you are aged between 14 and 25, Brave Island can offer you all this and more.

The platform, which offers free creative opportunities every week, has just announced some of its biggest opportunities to date.

Applications are currently open for a £1,000 commission to create a public art installation at Ventnor Fringe and to join a free trip to Brighton.

The public art commission has been created in collaboration with the IW Creative Network, for an outdoor art installation to be located in the tented fringe village at Ventnor Fringe.

This could be a sculpture, installation, performance, or interactive piece.

As well as the £1,000 commission, you’ll also receive support from a professional mentor.

Looking for something more long term? Brave Island is also looking for a creative projects apprentice for a paid role to work with two of the Island’s leading cultural organisations on their live events.

The apprenticeship is an 18-month placement, working between Ventnor Exchange and New Carnival, learning about producing events.

You’ll be working on major projects like Ventnor Fringe, and IW Mardi Gras.

If you are just looking to do something fun, Brave Island is hosting a free trip to Brighton, including a walking tour and visit an exhibition about the city’s rich LGBTQ+ history, as well as watching a show from the Brighton Fringe programme.

Brave Island has teamed up with the County Press to offer a six month placement as a columnist. You'll write a monthly column and receive feedback from the editors, as well as having your columns published in the country's biggest selling weekly newspaper and online on the Island's most-read news website. It's an amazing opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in journalism/writing.

Brave Island is created by Ventnor Exchange to provide mentoring, funding, experiences and training for young people interested in the creative industries.

It’s free to sign up to and take part in, and you only need to apply to whichever opportunities most appeal to you.
