As a resident of Mitchell's Road, Ryde, I wish to put forward my and a majority of residents' reasons to have appealed against the proposed yellow lines for Mitchell's Road.

As shown by the results of the appeal for or against them, it proved a strong majority against, but this and the valid points put forward against them seem not to have been reasonably considered when making their final decision.

In a previous newspaper article regarding the lines, little mention was made or addressed regarding a lot of these issues that residents feel are important and valid.

Myself and the majority of residents still object and can not see the need for yellow lines, again proven by the results of the objections when they were proposed, not only from Mitchell's Road but also from surrounding roads too.

It seems their valid objections were not seriously considered either as those roads would be affected too, becoming busier and more crowded than they already are as more people look for spaces and parking there instead also pushing them on to other roads and so on.

I wouldn't have thought multiple extra cars driving around already packed roads and parking any place they can, if they can, causing more obstructions and congestion is a better safer option than parking where we already do.

It isn't only Mitchell's Road to have yellow lines but also Colenuts, Salters and Southfield Gardens.

As a long term resident of Mitchell's Road, myself and other residents, long term or not, agree there never has been and still is no need for lines.

Even with cars parked on the road there is still enough room for vehicles to pass, including large delivery lorries, bin lorries and emergency vehicles, including the fire engine that went to the bottom of the road with no issues. I saw it drive down the road after midnight, a time when people are usually at home.

A handful of extra cars looking for space may not seem a lot but with residents of other roads pushed out by lines that's a lot of cars and not enough spaces.

Parking is already almost non existent now with the amount of vehicles that already park in the area especially after a certain time of day.

A main concern for those without a driveway is lack of parking as any room is already taken up.

Once all the spaces are taken on the estate or any roads without lines on, especially the main road, there are lines or full streets all the way to town.

So what would we all do, park in town where space is tight and a lot of parking is time restricted anyway and walk back for half an hour or more?

For some this would be with children or they may be elderly or may have mobility issues.

Or have people parking wherever they can this end of town, possibly in an unsafe place, potentially causing incidents not only because of where the car is parked but also for people exiting the vehicle.

There are concerns regarding our house prices and rentability of properties. One house went up for sale recently, the owners were told lines would knock £8,000 to £10,000 off the value.

With the push for electric vehicles too, how would someone charge it, if it's not outside?

There is no lack of visibility up or down Mitchell's Road for vehicles or the few pedestrians who may use it.

It is a hill and the cars are mainly parked on the one side of the road outside our own houses as there are no driveways (not as a comment claimed on a previous article that we all park wherever we can).

Some residents have expressed their concerns for children and pets as they feel some people speed up or down the road already, so it can't be that tight a road as it is now and the ability to see and avoid any parked cars or oncoming vehicles isn't a problem.

But they feel that the cars in the road do act as a deterrent to others to speed.
