A main Isle of Wight road has been closed this afternoon (Monday, May 1) to allow emergency works to be carried out.
An emergency closure on Shanklin High Street was put in place at around 2pm.
Work is being carried out by Scottish and Southern Electricity Network (SSEN) engineers on the road outside Ape Vapes and Paul's Jewellers.
The road has been closed from its junction with Victoria Avenue to Orchardleigh Road, with a diversion active via Orchardleigh.
The County Press has been told that workers on the site are saying the closure could be in place for a few days.
As a result of the closure, Southern Vectis routes two and three are facing diversions. See below.

UPDATE Tuesday 4.15pm: The road has now reopened to traffic.
