Wightlink says it is working to reduce lengthy delays which have plagued its Fishbourne to Portsmouth service this morning (Thursday).
Sailings on the car ferry route have been pushed back by two hours.
The 7am crossing from Fishbourne has yet to depart and is scheduled to go at at 9am.
It is the same for a number of crossings on the service.
No reason had been given earlier, but the ferry firm has now confirmed why there are delays.
It said overrunning maintenance is to blame.
Works on the shore mooring systems at Portsmouth are ongoing.
A spokeperson for Wightlink said: "We are working to reduce this delay."
Passengers are urged to check befoe they travel.
