When Covid stopped play in 2020, it meant many groups could no longer meet in the usual way.

Townswomen's Guilds were among those affected, and the regular reports of the Isle of Wight groups' meetings no longer featured in the County Press as a result.

However, once the meetings and social activities resumed, the groups once again started sending their reports in to the local paper for publication.

The County Press is one of the top three ways people get to hear about the TG activities on the IW (along with word-of-mouth and Facebook) - so it remains important for the groups.

A long-standing tradition going back many years is the County Press Shield.

It is presented annually to the top press correspondent across the groups.

This year, County Press co-editor Lori Little chose Cheryl May of Tennyson as the worthy recipient, for her well-written and interesting reports.

With a passion for comedy writing, Cheryl is a prolific writer, with over 120 published scripts under her pen name Cheryl Barrett.

Her comedy sketches, plays, monologues and pantomimes have been staged in 22 countries to date.

Also given a special mention was Jacky Flux of Shanklin Townswomen's Guild, who always has a lot to write about thanks to the group's many activities.
