A TEARFUL Isle of Wight drink driver caught speeding in the early hours of the morning has been banned from the road.

Charlotte Mosdell, of Carter Street, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, March 28.

The 28-year-old admitted drink-driving in Ryde, on Brading Road, on March 11 of this year.

Prosecutor, Tom Corke, told the court police had been on duty in the early hours of the morning.

He said they were alerted to a car driving at speed and failing to indicate before turning at a junction.

The driver, Mosdell, was described as being in an emotional state and admitted to officers she had recently consumed alcohol.

She registered a breath-alcohol reading of 79 when the legal limit is 35.

Barry Arnett, defending, said Mosdell had been speeding on St John’s Hill up to Great Preston Road and pulled over when asked.

She had been out in the evening and never intended to drive, but after getting a taxi home, because of personal, complex health issues, she got in her car.

Mr Arnett said Mosdell was a single parent and had suffered with severe health difficulties since October 2021.

She was doing an apprenticeship course to better herself, and learning to become an accountant.

Mosdell was fined £218 and disqualified from driving for 18 months. She must pay costs of £85 and an £87 surcharge.
