AN ISLE of Wight man accused of embarking on a campaign of high-level violence – assaulting and throttling his ex-girlfriend – will stand trial later this year.
Kane Smith, of Rew Street, Gurnard, appeared before a judge at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Wednesday, March 15.
At a previous hearing, the 25-year-old denied two counts of non-fatal strangulation and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, between July 9 and September 4 of last year.
Mr Smith is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, punching and headbutting her, grabbing her by the throat and kicking her, among other actions.
Mr Smith saw his case adjourned for a trial on August 29 at the same venue.
He was granted conditional bail until that date.
The trial is estimated to last four days, and Mr Smith must serve a defence case statement by May 10.
