AN ISLE of Wight man who failed to turn up for his court hearing has been convicted in his absence.
The case of Bradley Dyer, of George Street, Sandown, was heard before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (March 14).
The 22-year-old failed to attend his hearing and the case was heard in his absence.
He was found guilty of being drunk and disorderly in a public place, in Ryde, on October 7 of last year.
Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court police had been on duty when they were alerted to an incident at Yelf’s Hotel in Ryde.
They were called at approximately 3.20pm following reports of a man in-drink, shouting, swearing and throwing items.
Mrs Smout said attending officers met Dyer in the hotel garden and he directed abuse at them and telling them to arrest him.
The court heard he was slurring his words and struggling to stand up, and after refusing to calm down, he was arrested.
Dyer was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £26 surcharge.
