TWO people were cut off by the tide at Whitecliff Bay yesterday afternoon (Friday), prompting a response from rescue teams.
Bembridge lifeboat launched at 12.40pm to locate an elderly lady who was out walking at the eastern end of Whitecliff Bay and, after hurting her ankle, had become cut off by the tide.
The casualties' partner had waded out to reach her by the time lifeboat crews reached the scene.
Due to the difficult terrain above where the couple were located, the coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-the-Solent was requested for assistance.
The two casualties were taken to Bembridge Airport where they were checked over by paramedics.
In the meantime, a dog belonging to another member of the general public had found his way onto the beach and was scooped up by the lifeboat crew and taken back to the Offshore Boathouse and reunited with his owner.
