After more than 20 years at its previous home, a popular cafe has swapped one Isle of Wight high street for another.

The Place to Eat is bucking the trend of recent business closures in Newport and hopes to breathe life back into the town.

The cafe has opened at 61 High Street, next to the former HMV store.

Owner Barry Grazier had previously served Islanders from Bath Road, Cowes — the cafe's home of 24 years.

But when the lease came to an end, Barry thought: "it's about time to move to Newport to see some new faces."

He told the County Press: "We thought right, Newport needs a good kick.

"There are a lot of places closing on the High Street and a lot of people walking around saying they want somewhere nice to eat and not at ridiculous prices.

"So we thought let's make the move and go for it!"

Not only has the business relocated, but so too have the staff.

Long-term employee Annie, who has worked at the cafe since it first opened, has joined Barry in relocating to Newport, as has Phillipa, who has worked there for ten years.

The cafe is dog-friendly.

It is open 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. It is also open on weekends.
