THE national Met Office has issued a Level 2 yellow cold weather action alert, covering the south of England for this coming week — but the question everyone is asking is, will it snow?

What we know is there will be a cold front coming down from the north this week, the Met Office forecast states.

The County Press asked Jamie Russell, of the Isle of Wight Met Service — who has been carefully studying the weather model — how he thinks the weather on the Island will pan out.

"There's no snow on the way. We've got a couple of chilly days — Tuesday and Wednesday — nothing special really," Jamie said.

Jamie continued: "There could be a little bit of light, patchy sleety stuff on Monday night or Tuesday morning, over the Downs perhaps, with no real sign of anything developing.

"There's going to be some stuff moving through the English Channel, to our south, so it looks like we're not really going to be seeing anything interesting.

"Really, it won't be much different to what we've seen the past couple of weeks. Maybe it will be a bit colder and a little more unpleasant, with temperatures barely falling below zero."

Tuesday daytime temperatures will be hitting around 5C, followed by the possibility of frost overnight, dropping to zero in a few places, then up to 5C-6C on Wednesday.

Jamie has produced a short video to explain what is happening using weather data to dampen the hype about snow coming to the Island.
