AN ISLE of Wight man who was looking for a fight at Newport Bus Station after a funeral has been sentenced.
Perry Masters, of Spring Hill, Ventnor, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words/behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, in Newport, on February 12.
Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court two members of the public had been at Newport Bus Station at approximately 1.30am.
She said Masters approached the pair while shouting, asking what their problem was, and appeared to be looking for a fight.
On police arrival, Ms Smout said Masters appeared agitated, not making much sense, and shouting at other members of the public.
The court heard Masters had a substantial list of previous convictions, but none since 2020.
Oscar Vincent, defending, said Masters had recently attended a funeral and wake for somebody close to him.
He said he was feeling down, and with his birthday fast approaching, he had been invited out for drinks with friends.
Mr Vincent told the bench Masters saw a woman crying, and with a male standing over her, formed the impression that she had been made to cry.
He said Masters approached the pair to ask if she was OK and matters escalated.
Masters was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £16 surcharge.
