Cowes Enterprise College will close to most pupils on Thursday, when NEU teaching union members take part in second day of strike action.

The Ormiston Trust-run school will be open to years 11, 12 and 13, however, as well as to those who are vulnerable and the children of critical care workers.

If more planned strike action goes ahead, on Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16, a similar arrangement will be in place.

In a letter to parents, principal Rachel Kitley, said: "As a result of the strike action, we will not have enough members of staff to safely open the academy to all students or be able to provide remote education."

She added: "We appreciate the inconvenience this will cause for some families and we thank you for your continued support and understanding"

Free packed lunches are being provided for eligible children to take home on tomorrow (Wednesday, March 1).

The NEU is called for funded pay rises, so schools do not have to find the money to pay for them in their existing budgets.

The government has condemned the action.
