Fringe is coming to Cowes, with a promise that the quirky and creative will collide.
The first Cowes Fringe will take place from May 26 to 28, set to deliver an explosion of art and culture through performances and workshops.
Hosted in unique venues throughout the town, Cowes Fringe guarantees a memorable weekend extravaganza of entertainment for all ages.
The mission is to build on and enrich a thriving community spirit, encouraging local businesses and hospitality to become involved in a broad celebration of diverse talent.
Managed by a local team and supported by a West End team, Cowes Fringe promises a broad range of local and mainland talent.
Here are the first acts announced:
UK actress Claire Sweeney, known from her early days on Brookside to her career which has spanned stage and screen, will close the fringe with a gala evening. She will sing songs and tell stories from throughout her career.
She said: “I am honoured to be taking part in the inaugural Cowes Fringe and can’t wait to be on the Isle of Wight for the first time.”
Alfie Moore is known for his popular BBC Radio 4 Comedy series It's a Fair Cop. He blends succinct layman explanations about the law, with funny anecdotes from his own policing experiences.
Indefinite Articles Presents Pinocchio. Steve Tiplady, as Geppetto, uses the objects of a carpenter’s workshop to tell the tale of the puppet that wants to be a real boy and the puppet maker who wants to be a real father.
Direct from a sold-out season at the Little Angel Puppet Theatre, London, this is a family show from age four upwards.
Jim Vision, a visionary artist and painter of large-scale murals, will hold public events at two secret locations.
Mig Kimpton has run West End theatres and managed tours for an assortment of stars, including Sir Ian McKellen. Now an award-winning floral artist, Mig makes his first appearance on the Isle of Wight drawing his inspiration from all things connected with the seaside and telling theatrical tales.
Also appearing are Island jazz singer Nina Ross, local drag artiste Quivers, and John Blek, Irish folk singer.
The event has been welcomed by Cllr Paul Bertie, Mayor of Cowes.
He said: "I am personally thoroughly looking forward to the new Cowes Fringe. An event of this nature has been a long time coming, and I know the team and volunteers behind it are all passionate about it and truly dedicated to making the event a huge success.
"I wish all involved the very best of luck. I know Cowes will support it with enthusiasm!"
