The letter which appeared in last week’s County Press (24-02-23) bemoaning the state of Sandown brought forth many nods of head in agreement to what was said.
Having lived in the area for well over 40 years, I now tell people that I live in Yaverland and not Sandown as it is in such a state.
One assumes the town councillors never walk around the town because if they did and had any pride in what they represent, surely they would make a commitment to sort out the mess.
I know we are not the only town to have empty shops, but with Tarvic 2, the Ocean Hotel, the bomb site by the library (how many years have we suffered these monstrosities?) plus empty scruffy shops, we are well on the way to being top of the list for one of the saddest places on the Island.

Well done to those few shop owners who do their very best to brighten up the High Street.
We are lucky to have a good beach which sort of runs itself, thank goodness.
And what will the IW Council do with Browns Golf now they have taken it back?
Watch this space but don’t hold your breath!
