Isle of Wight councillors were among those who went flippin' mad at an annual pancake tossing contest yesterday (Tuesday).

Launched in 2016, the event raises money for foodbanks and pantries in and around the town.

Like last year, this year's challenge was held at Pickle & Dill, Union Street. It was dedicated to foodbank volunteer Erica Manley.

Erica helped launched the event in 2016 alongside Ryde Mayor, Cllr Michael Lilley.

Cllr Lilley told the County Press: "Erica sadly died at the end of last year and this is in memory of her really.

"I always said I would continue the challenge until poverty, particularly child poverty, in Ryde reduced. And it's not. It's actually gone up.

"There are families on the Island and in Ryde who haven't got food tonight."

Competitors each had one minute to flip as many pancakes as possible.

As the contest raises awareness of poverty and food insecurity, a cork tray was used instead of real pancakes, to avoid food wastage.

Who battered who, and who was left with egg on their face?

Mayor Cllr Michael Lilley scored a respectable 55, but was battered by reigning champion, Bob 'the chef', who recorded an impressive 90.

In second was Isle of Wight Cllr, Phil Jordan who managed 78.

While, Peter May, who has been walking the Island in stilletos to raise money for domestic abuse hub, Wight Dash, came third with 60.

Over the years, the event has raised more than £10,000.

All donations will be split between the foodbanks and charities.
