This is a letter I have sent to the Rt Rev Jonathan Frost, Bishop of Portsmouth.

"I am writing to you to ask if we, as a Christian community, can have a national, or several, National Days of Prayer for our NHS.

We in this country have, over the years since it started, been blessed by this organisation with its multiple skills, treatments, healings and with end-of-life care.

None of us know when we might need its help.

But at this present time, vast numbers of people are unable to get the help, treatment or operations they need because the NHS is in crisis. I have no doubt that we need to turn to God for help.

I have been reading a book of true stories of how God acts today, called Miracles written by Geoff and Hope Price.

There is an account of what happened during the Second World War when millions flocked to churches to commit the nation's cause to God, troops at Dunkirk were rescued and Hitler defeated.

God tells us 'ask and you will receive'.

I believe that in times of crisis God will come to our aid. He and He alone has the power to heal the NHS.

We, as Christians, are commissioned to spread the Gospel and to heal the sick. We would fail in our duty if we remain silent knowing the great need and did not ask God to intercede and intervene.

My prayer is that each Christian denominator in Britain will make a pledge to pray for our NHS, its doctors, nurses and dentists and all who work there and to pray for the government ministers who make decisions on its behalf.

It is vital for each one of us that it continues to thrive.

I know that this will take time and effort to accomplish but if God is for us, who can be against us, we have an opportunity to allow Our Heavenly Father to do this will and to make known to his people the love He has for them.

I have faith to know that when we put our trust in the One who gave his life for us that miracles do happen.

I send this letter to you with hope in my heart that this will be acted upon."
