What does the future hold for dementia sufferers in the UK?

That is the question being asked at an event in Bembridge Sailing Club on Thursday.

The panel of people answering questions are Hilda Hayo, CEO and chief Admiral's Nurse at Dementia UK, Darren Cattell, chief executive of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and Cllr John Nicholson, chair of the public health and scrutiny committee on the Isle of Wight Council.

The event is being hosted by Lady Sally Grylls, Bembridge resident and long-term supporter of the Admiral's Nurses on the Isle of Wight, alongside Joe Robertson, a St Helens resident and IW councillor, who works for Dementia Uk.

Joe told the County Press: "Dementia is now one of the leading causes of death and is particularly prevalent in our older Island population.

"It not only presents a daily challenge to those looking after family members with dementia but it is one of the biggest challenges to the delivery of health and social care that meets the needs of our population.

"On Thursday we will be bringing together some of the key individuals on the Island to ask how we can better address the future of dementia care."

Admission to the event, from noon to 1.30pm, is free and there will be refreshments afterwards.
