Isle of Wight bar's statement after S Club 7 star performs in Newport

Star Bradley McIntosh had Islanders reaching for the stars at the sell-out event, which was also supposed to have seen fellow band member, Tina Barrett, perform. 

In a statement, Wyld, which hosted the event, admitted it was “disappointed” by the no-show but thanked Islanders for a “fun and memorable” evening.

Bradley’s appearance followed the recent announcement of S Club 7’s reunion tour later this year.

Owner Josh Peverley told the County Press: “We’ve truly loved seeing your photos and videos across social media and your selfies with Bradley and I’d personally like to thank you for joining us for what was an incredibly fun and memorable evening, however we appreciate that this isn’t the experience customers booked tickets for in good faith, and we were as disappointed as you to learn last night that the show we had booked to kickstart our new wave of Flashback Friday events wasn’t going to be going ahead as planned. 

“Sadly, this situation was out of our hands, and when we booked the show earlier this year there was no speculation or confirmation of an S Club 7 reunion, for which contractual obligations meant they weren’t able to appear for the show we had booked and sold tickets to.”

Fans heard hits including Don’t Stop Movin’ and S Club Party, and Bradley posed for pictures.

Josh thanked attendees for coming to support a local business.

He added: “We’re an independent business at the heart of Newport with a passion for creating unique customer experiences and the risks at such a tough time for Hospitality to stage these events are incredibly high. 

“Hosting last night’s event took months of planning behind the scenes to ensure that we provided a fun and safe event, with additional security, noise control measures and transforming the venue with staging and lighting.”

Josh said he understands some attendees may have been disappointed by Tina’s no-show.

He has promised to issue 50 per cent refunds to customers, should they want one.

He said: “All tickets to the event included a complimentary arrival drink, allowing many customers to sample our signature cocktails. 

“However, despite an outstanding show from Bradley who didn’t want to let you guys down, and had an incredible hour bringing the best S Club Party to Wyld that he could: singing, posing for pictures and partying, I share your disappointment and am in the process of contacting all customers that I didn’t get the chance to speak to personally last night, to offer a 50 per cent refund on the face value price of their ticket, alongside a £5 voucher to join us again at Wyld, with no time or minimum spend restrictions. 

“We feel this is fair, but if anyone still isn’t happy they can contact me directly, and I’ll happily speak to them on the phone and explain the situation placed upon us and resolve it in the best way possible.”

Last night’s event proved popular from the minute it was announced in January.

Tickets sold out within just 90 seconds.

Josh is promising to bring more stars across the Solent for Flashback Friday’s in the future.
