A TEENAGER has been arrested as part of an investigation into a van fire in East Cowes yesterday evening (Friday, February 18).

Police were called at 7.47pm to a white Transit van on fire on York Avenue.

East Cowes Fire Team said the blaze was out when they got there, but an attempt had been made to set light to a tyre.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that a 18-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of arson and possession of cocaine.

He remains in police custody at this time.

Police have not commented on recent incidents, including, on December 20, two vans damaged by a fire on York Avenue.

In July 2022, on York Avenue, three vehicles and a hedge went up in flames, and on January 21, a motorhome and van were damaged.
