Southern Vectis is investing £1.7 million buying seven new buses for its Isle of Wight route 1 service.

They will arrive in August and September and will mostly work on the journey between Cowes and Newport.

Southern Vectis managing director, Andrew Wickham, said: "These brand new British-built Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 double decker buses will provide comfort and reliability.

"We are incredibly proud to be investing in these new vehicles. This is good news for both commuters and leisure passengers wishing to travel here."

The operator says the new buses will have USB charging points for smartphones and hand-held devices.

There will also be a tap on, tap off contactless payment option.

They are also low emission, which Southern Vectis says is better for the environment.
