The Isle of Wight County Press is delighted to have been shortlisted in the prestigious Newspaper Awards 2023.

We are in the running for local weekly newspaper of the year, up against competition from the Bridgnorth Journal, Cambridge Independent, New Milton Advertiser & Lymington Times, Newbury Weekly News and The Oxford Times.

Formerly the News Awards, the accolades focusing on recognising excellence in printed newspapers.

Alan Marriott, County Press editor, said: "We are honoured to have been nominated. It is testimony to the hard work the team has put in over the past year, working on all the Island stories that matter, plus offering support for the people of Ukraine and running the highly successful Wight Warmers Knit-in to keep vulnerable people warm during the cost-of-living crisis.

"Our Island-based team have the best interests of the community at heart, holding those in authority to account and highlighting the achievements of our fabulous community."

Gary Cullum, director, said: "Printed newspapers will evolve for many years to come and will continue to be published alongside their digital counterparts.

"The Newspaper Awards will focus on production and innovation in national, international, regional, weekly and hyperlocal newspapers.

"It will recognise the skill and expertise of all the employees involved in producing the printed publication."

The Isle of Wight County Press is the UK's biggest selling local weekly newspaper and it is published every Friday.

It runs alongside countypress.co.uk which welcomes over a million page views per month.

A ceremony will take place on March 28, at Hilton, London Bankside.
