The trial of an Isle of Wight councillor, accused of historic sexual offences, starts today (Monday).
Cllr Daryll Pitcher, 46, of Norman Way, Wootton Bridge, is accused of two counts of rape, and one count of indecent assault, on a girl under the age of 16 years, in Wootton.
He has always denied the charges, which relate to dates between March 19, 1989 and March 20, 1992.
Cllr Pitcher, the member for Wootton, would have been a teenager at the time of the alleged offences.
The trial, at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, is expected to last for five days.
