WITH the current custodians of Browns Gold Course throwing in the towel, the Isle of Wight Council says it is looking at other options as it works to develop “a masterplan” for the whole area.
This could include managing the golf course “in-house”, or re-advertising for new managers.
Back in April of 2021, Kate and Geoff Scandrett picked up the keys to Browns, off Yaverland Road in Sandown.
The lease to the attraction had been advertised by the council, but without detail about how long it would last.
The council told the County Press the lessee informed them of their decision to terminate the lease in January of this year.

“The council offered a five-year lease to allow the lessee to invest in the site, and there were no changes to the full repairing lease proposed by the council, nor were the council proposing to increase the rent,” said a spokesperson for the local authority.
“The council is now looking at options to re-advertise or manage the golf course in-house.
“We are meeting with stakeholders in early March to develop a masterplan for the whole area, which will include looking at the long-term future of the golf course.”
