The Isle of Wight's tiny Chillerton and Rookley primary school is without a teacher this term and its pupils are being educated in Godshill instead.
Ten students remain on roll - but they are currently attending lessons at Chillerton and Rookley's sister school, the County Press has been told.
A second advert has also failed to find a suitable candidate to fill the classroom role, said the Isle of Wight Council.
Some parents had threatened to stay put, despite the last teacher leaving, citing their rights under Section 9 of the Education Act, which allows pupils to be educated in accordance with parents’ wishes.
Last year, the 170 year old rural school achieved ‘good’ across all areas, following an Ofsted inspection.
It had been threatened with closure, when the Stenbury Federation told parents it wanted to amalgamate it with Godshill.
An informal consultation was never concluded, however and the closure threat was controversially removed, by Isle of Wight Council education lead Cllr Debbie Andre, allowing for a new review of primary school places on the Island.
County Hall says it continues to keep the current teaching situation under review.
