This year the UK will mark the Coronation of King Charles III with a three-day bank holiday weekend, and Isle of Wight residents have been advised on how to hold a street party.

To help Island residents celebrate the occasion, the Isle of Wight Council in partnership with Island Roads is simplifying the process for private residential street parties.

They have pledged to cut down on the red tape which drew criticism in the run-up to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

The County Press has been told road closure requests will be processed free of charge for private residential street parties, normal traffic management requirements are minimised, and the council will reimburse up to £100 towards Public Liability Insurance costs subject to conditions.

Anyone wishing to hold a street party over the extended bank holiday weekend from Saturday, May 6, to Monday, May 8, must submit applications by February 24.

Residents can email eventtrafficmanagement@islandroads.com to request a street closure application pack.

Cllr Phil Jordan, cabinet member for highways, said: "Having a private residential street party is easier than you may think and is a great way to meet your neighbours, build community spirit and, of course, to celebrate this fabulous event.

"We want everyone to have fun, and this means removing as many barriers as possible so that organising an event is as easy and stress-free as possible. We hope that as many neighbourhoods as possible will take the opportunity to join in."
