In the latest blow for Newport shoppers, the Isle of Wight branch of H&M is to close on February 4.

An in-store sign heralds the departure of the international clothing brand, which has a shop in South Street.

Instead, customers are being directed to its website.

The popular fashion brand currently occupies a significant two-storey retail space.

The loss of H&M follows a number of permanent and temporary closures announced on the Island.

A number of pubs have shut their doors in recent weeks.

However, just a few doors away from H&M, Sports Direct recently reopened its new look and expanded store, which includes Game.

Meanwhile, there are plans for Tesco to open a branch in what was formerly Laura Ashley, on Newport High Street.
