A MAIN Isle of Wight road has reopened this evening (Thursday) after floodwater from nearby marshes froze on the highway, seeing it closed earlier this week.
Morton Common, between Brading and Sandown, has been opened after Island Roads advised that the floodwater has now receded.
Teams have cleaned the gullies but still need time to finish a separate safety scheme.
During this time, until at least midday tomorrow (Friday), temporary traffic lights will be active on the road.
Some motorists ignored signage during the closure and continued to travel along the treacherous road.
Extra care should be taken when travelling in the area, as a flood warning from the Environment Agency remains in place for Bembridge, Brading, Sandown and areas surrounding the Eastern Yar.
We've opened Morton Common as floodwater from the nearby marshes which froze on the highway has now receded. We've also cleaned the gullies. Traffic lights remain until midday Fri while we finish a separate safety scheme. Sorry for inconvenience but safety must come first @iwight

A spokesperson from the Environment Agency said: “This means properties are at risk of flooding. Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions.
“Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.”
