Flooding continues to impact some of the Isle of Wight’s major roads this afternoon (Tuesday).
A flood warning for the Eastern Yar remains in force, predominantly affecting Sandown, Brading and Bembridge.
Morton Common is still heavily flooded, and closed, though motorist continue to ignore the signage.
Extra care should be taken when travelling in the area.
Island Roads said the worst affected areas are the fords around Carisbrooke Castle and the bridges of the Eastern Yar.
A flood alert for the Eastern Yar also remains in effect.
Two ice warnings were also issued for the Isle of Wight – by the Met Office and Isle of Wight Met Service.
The latter remains active.
Islanders are urged to be wary of ice sheets and black ice on roads and walkways, leading to extremely slippery and hazardous driving conditions in places.
Jamie Russell for the IW Met Service said there are risks of accidents or injuries from slipping on indistinguishable black ice.
Several crashes have been reported this morning – on Pixley Hill and Noke Common.
The Met Office said sub-zero temperatures overnight meant any water seeping onto roads would continue to freeze, leading to icy stretches, particularly, but not exclusively on untreated surfaces.
