Officers investigating a number of offences in Freshwater, including a burglary, have arrested two boys.

Police were called at 4.45pm yesterday (Wednesday) with reports of a burglary in progress at an empty address in Avenue Road, Freshwater.

Attending officers arrested two teenage boys from Freshwater nearby, aged 13 and 14 respectively.

They were arrested on suspicion of burglary, but were also arrested on suspicion of the following offences:

  • Theft of Red Bull from Sainsbury’s on School Green Road in Freshwater on January 5.
  • Harassment, relating to an incident at Sainsbury’s on School Green Road in Freshwater on January 7.
  • Theft of coffee cups from Sainsbury’s on School Green Road in Freshwater on January 7.
  • Criminal damage to a door at Sainsbury’s on School Green Road in Freshwater on January 6.
  • Theft of chocolate from Sainsbury’s on School Green Road in Freshwater on 9 January 2023.

The 13-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of two further criminal damage incidents, relating to damage to doors and a window at an address on Queens Road, Freshwater on January 2 and January 4.

Both boys have been bailed until April 11 while further enquiries are conducted.

A public meeting is being held in Freshwater on Monday to address anti-social issues in the town.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have pledged to send an officer along to the meeting, which is being held at 6pm on Monday at West Wight Sports and Community Centre.
