Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely received thousands of pounds on top of his salary – from institutions including two sailing clubs, and from a former Island MP.
The register of interests, a system used by MPs to declare earnings on top of their salary, shows that since the beginning of the current parliament at the end of 2019, Mr Seely declared seven financial interests.
Like his colleagues in the House of Commons, he is required by law to report certain financial interests to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards.
Every interest an MP declares falls into one of three categories; donations, earnings from other employment, and gifts and other benefits.
The latest figures show Mr Seely received the following:
- Barry Field (former Island MP) – £4,000 donation.
- Sea View Yacht Club – honorary membership, total value £2,980.
- Isle of Wight Conservative Patrons Club – £5,000 donation.
- BBC – £200, for an appearance on Radio 4's Any Questions.
- Yalta European Strategy – Flights and travel £1,262.66, accommodation £314.12, dinners/hospitality £450.06, total value £2,026.
- Bembridge Sailing Club – Honorary membership, total value £2,440.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Bahrain - Travel and accommodation, total value £5,340.
Reacting to the figures, Mr Seely said: “I am very happy to be scrutinised on my record, and I congratulate the investigators for doing this work.
“The more transparency there is, the better.
“My interests declared here are modest compared to other MPs.
“They include donations to the Conservative Party for the purpose of election campaigning, working trips to Bahrain and Ukraine, and honorary memberships of Isle of Wight sailing clubs.”
