A MAN accused of assaulting three Isle of Wight prison officers during a violent struggle will stand trial later this year.

Adeel Asif, of HMP Isle of Wight, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates via video link on Friday (January 6).

The 25-year-old is charged with three counts of assault by beating in Newport, on September 27 of last year.

He is accused of assaulting three prison officers while struggling violently, spitting in two of their faces and causing the other a painful injury to the wrist.

He saw his case adjourned for a trial on March 30 at the same venue.

Mr Asif, who was unrepresented, said he had a dry mouth at the time of the incident and denied spitting.

He was granted unconditional bail.
