NEW toilets have been opened at the Isle of Wight's Lake Cliff Gardens, following extensive building work and installation of Covid safe individual units.
The loos were closed in the early 2010s by the IW Council and have since been maintained and serviced by Lake Parish Council.
Along with the New Road and Revetment toilets, the new facilities at Lake Cliff Gardens have a payment system of 20p, either by cash or card, as well as 'accessible and family-friendly features'.
Parish chairman Cllr Paul Brading said: "The Parish Council recognised the need to upgrade our amenities for the benefit of residents and visitors, and following consultation, this major investment is the first phase of a longer-term plan to improve facilities in the Parish.
"This major investment of £150,000 reflects the ambition of the Parish to respond to feedback from local parishioners, as well as part of our contribution to the development of a Bay Place Plan alongside Sandown and Shanklin Town Councils."
Lake Parish Council has invested funds in youth provision, maintenance of the Revetment toilets, Fairway Park, a range of commemorative events, and, following extensive public consultation, is planning the upgrade of New Road toilets.
Cllr Brading added: "The Parish Council recognise that new and improved facilities come at a cost, and whilst keeping the precept below that of comparable councils, the cost pressures will likely result in an increase for the first time in many years."
