AN ISLE of Wight woman who drank a bottle of wine then drove and crashed her car into a parked vehicle, was almost four times the drink-drive limit.

Emma Theresa Elliott, admitted drink-driving on Clatterford Road, Carisbrooke, on the evening of November 18, at her previous appearance at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court, on December 2.

Police were called to the accident at 8.45pm. At the scene, Elliott told officers she drank a bottle of wine before she drove her Kia Picanto, said Ann Smout, prosecuting, at the same venue today (Tuesday).

Elliott collided with a parked car and wrote off her vehicle. She had no passengers in her car.

The 33-year-old, of Victoria Road, Newport, failed a roadside police breath test and was subsequently arrested.

At Newport Police Station, Elliott then provided an alcohol breath reading of 136 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35.

Elliott was convicted of cannabis production and handling stolen goods in 2014, the bench was also told.

For her, Barry Arnett said Elliott had taken steps to address her alcohol abuse problems — and was doing well since the offence.

At her previous hearing, Mr Arnett added Elliott was vulnerable — suffering with mental health issues and getting counselling — and had not driven since.

"She is contrite and very aware of what else could have happened. She has learned a lesson. It has been a wake up call for her," said Mr Arnett.

"She told me, 'I could've killed somebody'," he also said when defending Elliott at her court appearance last month.

After considering a report on Elliott, magistrates handed her 18 months' probation, to include 200 hours' unpaid work, and imposed a 32-month driving ban, with £85 costs and a £114 surcharge.
