I’m a member of the Motability Scheme and recently exchanged my gas-guzzling Qashqai for an all-electric Nissan Leaf.
The car side of things has been great, especially the great customer service I received from David at Staddlestones, in Ryde.
What hasn’t been great is arranging to have a domestic charging station installed at my home in Grange Road, East Cowes.
wepoweryourcar.com, the supplier Motability uses to install home charging points, doesn’t like coming to the IW unless there are two customers on the Island for them to see. Making it cost effective for them.

Meaning I now have my new car, but no ability to charge it for free at home using my solar panels.
Sure there are plenty of easy-to-locate charges on the Island, but I really wanted to cut costs to pay for heating.
I feel it’s very unfair of Motability to treat Islanders differently to customers on the mainland.
