AN ISLE of Wight resident celebrated her 100th birthday on Saturday (December 17), with many friends and family coming to enjoy her special day at a Shanklin nursing home.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Poole was born on December 17, 1922, and moved to the Island 45 years ago, previously living in Ruislip Manor in West London.

In 1944, during World War 2, Jackie survived a V1 bomb that exploded in the Strand in London, immediately outside her Air Ministry office window, killing many people.

Jackie has two children, John and Jennifer, three grandchildren and three great-grandsons, the youngest of whom is two and a half.

Now living at Springfield Nursing Home on Arthurs Hill in Shanklin, Jackie was living in her home, with care help, until suffering a recent stroke.

Jackie celebrated with friends and family at the nursing home, along with another resident Mandy who also celebrated her birthday.

On Saturday, a spokesperson from Springfield Nursing Home said: “It’s been a day of double celebration today at Springfield.

“Our lovely Jackie was 100 years young today and had lots of family and friends visit. It was also Mandy’s birthday, and she was overwhelmed by all gifts she received.

“Happy birthday ladies.”
