A HISTORIC public house in Ryde that supports British armed forces veterans — renamed The Veteran — is up and running and wishes its customers a warm welcome in the run-up to Christmas.
The well known public house on Ryde Esplanade, formerly The Marine Hotel (established in 1875), has undergone some big changes in recent weeks in its tranistion to The Veteran.
"We have all new beers on tap and some great visual additions to the fixtures and fittings," a spokesperson for the pub said.
The Veteran is a big supporter of The Veterans Hub Isle of Wight.
The Veterans Hub is a community interest company, which opened a year ago in Ryde High Street, with the aim of relieving hardship for veterans — current serving personnel and associated family and friends who have a direct connection with the Isle of Wight, past or present — in respect of finance, trauma, isolation and well-being.
The Veteran pub offers ten per cent off for forces veterans and Blue Light Card holders, issued to those in the emergency and prison services, serving British Armed Forces personnel and veterans, and some branches of the Civil Service, as well.
