I THOUGHT this scene I captured in Wootton might extract a wry smile from readers.

Right next to a sign erected by anti-quarry group Wootton Against Gravel Extraction (WAGE) were five large bags containing tonnes of ballast — most likely quarried.

Right there in a small corner of Wootton was a classic paradox. 

Residents want materials with which to build things. But they want those materials sourced far away from where they live.

I hate to rush to judgement seeing as though we don’t know what lies exactly behind my photo.

But it looks to me that — caught on camera — it is a prime example of hardcore Nimbyism.
