The Isle of Wight hospital's Wellow Unit is in the running for a The Sun Who Cares Wins award today (Tuesday) and the team could find themselves meeting broadcaster Davina McCall, at a black-tie ceremony at London's Roundhouse.
Set up to improve care for patients and their loved ones in the final days of their lives, St Mary's Hospital's nurse-led end of life unit is the only one of its kind in the country.
As reported by The Sun, it was originally set up as a three-bed unit, in February 2020, but has since expanded.
Earlier this year, the ward was also shortlisted at The Nursing Times awards and for this latest accolade, the team received three nominations.
