Strong winds and high water made for dramatic scenes in Wootton this lunchtime (Monday), as foam was whipped up.

Photographer Pam Parker said she had never seen so much of the white stuff at the sheltered inlet, sharing photos and video with the Isle of Wight County Press.

Flooding has closed Morton Common at Brading, according to Island Roads and the Environment Agency earlier warned Golf Links Road was impassable.

A flood alert is in place until tomorrow for the Isle of Wight's coastline, because high tide (at 10.15pm) will be higher than normal, due to unsettled weather, strong southerly Force 6 to 7 winds and large waves.

Expect spray and overtopping at Freshwater Bay, Sandown, Shanklin, Gurnard and Ryde.

The impacts on Cowes will be minimal, the Environment Agency said.

At 10.45am on Tuesday, there may be minor on sea front roads in Yarmouth and Cowes.

Promising an update at 8am tomorrow, the organisation said: "At high tide, avoid parking, walking or driving at exposed sea front locations.

Meanwhile, on the Eastern Yar, there is a flood warning for Langbridge and Alverstone and a less serious flood alert for other areas.

Power cable down

Earlier on Monday, a power cable came down at the junction of Thorley Main Road and Wellow Top Road.

SSE engineers were called to make it safe, by Island Roads and buses had to be diverted for a time.
