A flood alert, issued yesterday (Sunday), developed into a more serious flood warning overnight, prompting the Environment Agency to update its advice for Islanders living in the vicinity of the Eastern Yar river.

It came after after 50mm of rain fell, for the second time in a week - almost half a month’s rainfall in just 48 hours.
Alverstone residents have been warned to expect main road flooding near the bridge and water surrounding their homes.
The flooding of houses was possible at Alverstone and Langbridge, the agency warned, at high tide (3.30am this morning, and hours around it).

The warning added: "The cycle track to Horringford will be flooded, restricting access.
"Golf Links Road, cycle tracks and footpaths across the Upper Yar Valley will be impassable."
Residents were told to install flood protection and leave it in place until this afternoon (Monday).
An update is expected at 9.30am.

What about flooding in other areas of the Isle of Wight?
Meanwhile, for other parts of the Eastern Yar, a less serious flood alert remains in force.
At Sandown, the river is expected to peak this morning and cause remain high for a few days.
An update is due at 10am.
A second flood alert is also in place, for the Isle of Wight coast.
This morning's high tide (at about 10am) is expected to be higher than normal, due to unsettled weather and south westerly force five winds.
Minor flooding will affect some sea fronts roads, esplanades and car parks, the Environment Agency has said.
Water will be high up slipways in Cowes, affecting Medina Road and the Floating Bridge.
In East Cowes, sea water forced up through drains may cause 'very minor' impacts to the road at Albany Road.
Tonight (at 10pm) conditions will be similar.
At Medina Road, near the Floating Bridge, the tide is expected to rise to just below front door steps and householders should install flood protection.
An update on this Isle of Wight coast alert is due at 2pm.
