A temporary road closure, suddenly introduced on Thursday night so a problem with a manhole cover on Fairlee Road could be fixed, has now been lifted.
The major road into Newport has fully reopened, according to contractor Island Roads this morning (Friday).
Last night, just yards from ongoing Southern Water works, a problem emerged with a manhole cover.
The road was immediately partially closed to traffic, just before rush hour.

Cars trying to leave Newport were caught up in major disruption and delays and there were huge queues through the town.
Traffic using Fairlee Road is already dealing with three-way lights outside Medina College, due to ongoing work by Southern Water, which itself has been causing delays.
This morning, Fairlee Road is reopen (however the lights at Medina College are still in place).
