MP BOB Seely has spoken about fracking after a ban on the practice was announced by Rishi Sunak.
A ban on fracking will be reintroduced in England, the Prime Minister said, on being asked about the issue by Green Party MP Caroline Lucas during Prime Minister's Questions.
A spokesperson from Downing Street later confirmed the move would be taking place.
The Island's MP, who had supported fracking but not on the Island, said today: "I have made clear my position on fracking on the Island, and I would be opposed to fracking on the Isle of Wight.
"The ban announced today isn’t going to have any effect on the Island but will have some effect on parts of the North-East. There isn’t going to be fracking on the Island."
Mr Sunak said he "stands by" the Conservative Party manifesto from 2019 which set out an effective ban on fracking.
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss had said that the ban on fracking would be lifted in areas where it was wanted, as she argued it would strengthen the country's energy supply.
“The most important thing for me is that we don’t have fracking on the Isle of Wight because we don’t want it."
What is fracking?
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a technique for recovering gas and oil from shale rock.
It is the process where liquid is pumped deep underground at a high pressure to fracture shale rock as a means of releasing the gas or oil trapped within it.
The wells can be drilled either vertically or horizontally to release the gas.
