WORKS to fix a burst sewer main have completed, Southern Water said this morning (Wednesday).
The main burst near Premier Inn in Newport's Seaclose area on Monday and tankers were used to move the sewer's contents away from the area, while the work was being done.
While the clean up was underway, carried out by specialist teams, Southern Water warned they were "likely to need to temporarily use our combined emergency overflow at The Quay".
A Southern Water spokesperson said today: "We’re pleased to say repairs to the broken sewer at The Quay, Newport were completed overnight.
"We’re sorry for the noise and disruption caused by the tankers we used to manage flows protecting the environment and preventing further flooding. These have now been stood down."
