SOUTHERN Water is dealing with a burst sewer at Seaclose - and say they will need to use the overflow at Newport Quay on the River Medina.
To minimise the amount released into the water, they are using tankers to take the sewage to the Fairlee part of the network.
A spokesperson said: "We’re sorry to say that a burst sewer main has caused flooding close to the Premier Inn, in Newport.
"We attended the site as soon as we were alerted and managed to prevent further flooding.
"A clean up is underway, and specialist teams are working around the clock to carry out repairs to the main.
"Unfortunately, to protect local businesses and other properties from flooding, we are likely to need to temporarily use our combined emergency overflow at The Quay.
"The length of any release will be minimised by the use of Southern Water tankers.
"We understand the disruption this incident may cause residents and businesses in the area and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as we can."
