TWO ISLE of Wight men have been jailed for more than 70 months between them, after making threats to kill in Newport.

The case against Joshua Parker and Luke Thorpe was heard at Portsmouth Crown Court on Tuesday, October 4.

Parker, 29, of Meadow Green, Newport, had been charged with racially aggravated assault by beating, on February 7, 2022.

Together with Thorpe, 31, of Longfield Road, Kingstanding, Birmingham — formerly of Arnold Road, Cowes — he was also charged with making a threat to kill, threatening to destroy or damage property, and affray.

The three charges all related to an incident on St John's Road, on June 10.

While initially denying the charges, the pair changed their pleas ahead of their trial.

The case was adjourned, so pre-sentence reports could be drawn up.

Appearing for sentencing on October 4, Parker was handed a 40-month prison term, and ordered to pay a £190 surcharge.

Thorpe was given a 32-month prison term, and ordered to pay a £190 surcharge.

Both were also made subject of restraining orders.
