AN ISLE of Wight woman has been putting a smile on her neighbour’s faces with crocheted acts of kindness and post box toppers.
Caroline Soley, from Sandown, brightens up people’s day with her colourful and creative post box topper designs. She also makes crochet hearts and flowers with messages, which she leaves around her local woods.
Caroline made her first post box topper last Remembrance Day, starting with a poppy design.
Since then, Caroline has created designs with pumpkins, squirrels and hedgehogs, as well as a special jubilee topper, which she later redesigned to pay respect following the Queen’s death.
Caroline bases her designs on events throughout the year, including Valentine's Day, Easter, Christmas, Halloween and Remembrance Day.
Telling the County Press why she started creating her wonderful toppers, she said: “Because of Covid, everybody was feeling so down, so it just seemed a good idea to try and cheer people up.”
Caroline is also part of ‘Random Acts of Crochet Kindness’, saying: “Since the beginning of lockdown, I have been leaving flowers out and about wherever I go.
“I do it really just the cheer people up and make them smile!”
Her pumpkin design is proudly sitting upon a post box in Alverstone, and she intends to add a witch or two ahead of Halloween.
Looking ahead, Caroline is planning another special remembrance day topper.
Caroline’s daughter, Georgia, said: “I think she’s amazing. Especially at a time when people needed uplifting (through lockdown), her simple acts of kindness make a difference.
“A lot of people look forward to finding the hearts/flowers my mum leaves around the woods.
“It might not seem like much, but it brightens up people’s day.”
