The death of Queen Elizabeth II meant the much-anticipated Isle of Wight finale of the 2022 Tour of Britain was cancelled, along with two other legs of Britain's biggest cycling event.

The Isle of Wight County Press asked Tour organisers whether the tour will be back in 2023. 

Although there was no definitive answer, the Tour of Britain said talks would be held with the Isle of Wight Council about possible hosting next year.

It is understood the Isle of Wight Council has yet to discuss re-applying fro the Tour and this would be done at Cabinet level.

The Tour of Britain spokesperson said: “Over the coming months we will be working with the local authorities who were due to host stages in the 2022 race to explore opportunities for hosting the race in the future so until that time cannot comment any further.”

The final leg of the 2022 Tour was due to start in Ryde on September 11 and wind its way around the Islend before completing a breathtaking finish at The Needles.

The 2022 Tour champion was due to be crowned at the landmark.
